The Philyaws have been married for 26 years and in ministry for 28 years. Passionately empowering couples and strengthening marriages through faith, love, and effective communication, they help nurture marital longevity. Their journey, marked by transformative moments and unexpected turns, has deepened their commitment to building healthy, balanced marriages. Excited to keep serving, they inspire couples to thrive, connect, and discover the joy and strength that comes from walking together in unity and love.

Meet the Team

Dr. Philyaw holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration in Social Welfare from Winston-Salem State University, a Master of Arts in Human Services with a focus on Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University, and a Doctor of Education in Leadership from North Central University.
Dr. Philyaw facilitates seminars, has served as the Department Chair of Social Sciences and Professor of Human Services at Shorter University. She has also held leadership roles, including Assistant Director at the Christian League for Battered Women and advocate for abused and neglected children through the North Carolina Court System. Dr. Philyaw has worked tirelessly to improve her community, organizing nonprofit initiatives and serving on several educational boards
Her research interests encompass Domestic Violence (DV), Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), Employee Retention and Morale, Grief Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT), Self-Care for Pastoral Staff, and Leadership; and Bridging Racial Divides.
Dr. Philyaw has also devoted over twenty years to ministerial work, focusing on youth development, marriage and family counseling, and pastoral care. She finds deep fulfillment in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, working with people of all ages, and providing educational support to promote individual success.
Her two favorite scriptures are:
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

With 28 years of ministry experience spanning youth, college, and adult ministries, Curtis has dedicated his life to helping people grow spiritually, emotionally, and relationally. His heart for serving couples led him to become a Certified Marriage Coach, where he equips individuals with Christ-centered tools to strengthen trust, deepen connection, and rediscover joy in their relationship.
Beyond ministry, Curtis has built a successful career as Product Manager with certifications of an Assistive Technology Professional and Child Passenger Safety Technician, supporting children and families with specialized seating, standing, gait training, hygiene equipment, and home modifications. His creativity and insight carried him into leadership roles, including Sales Territory Manager later Product Manager where he continues to oversee product research, development, and introduction. Curtis especially values the opportunity to remain connected with families and clinicians through education, training, and field validation.
Whether in ministry, healthcare, or coaching, Curtis’s passion remains the same: walking alongside people to help them thrive in every area of life.
